The world needs more safe places to BE and the organizations have in our hands the responsibility and the power to promote them. There is a universal concept that coins this purpose: ‘the world is, because each one of us is’.

Hence the fact that people prefer brands with clear and real actions that create spaces where they can develop freely and safely, regardless of their condition or preference, religious, political or sexual orientation.

Diversity and inclusion are two connected concepts, but one should not replace the other. Diversity already exists: in the ecosystem of an organization we have people of different ages, backgrounds, histories, preferences, conditions and beliefs. Inclusion in safe spaces is what we must manage. Value and involve ideas and perspectives in our environment, regardless of where they come from.

Companies have the potential to be better if employees can ‘be’ and express themselves in their work and professional environments in accordance with their way of life, without the need for them to feel that they must fit into a predetermined model. That they trust that their ‘packaging’ is perfect and that they do not need to invest their energy in monitoring an environment to speak or act, for fear of being judged.

To the extent that in work settings we build safe spaces for our human capital, we will forge culture and have the energy of collaborators in favor of the purpose and objectives of the organization. In addition, we will generate collective conversations, process development, products or services with a holistic perspective. Trust will be forged and there will be a greater commitment on the part of the collaborators.

Leaders play an essential role in creating safe work spaces, because through their leadership and guidance they allow them to really connect with each collaborator, motivating and bringing out the best that each person has to offer. For example, one of our Nequi Culture pillars is ‘We are because you are’ and this is based on respecting individuality and difference, listening to people, recognizing each legitimate and valuable person in their particularity. In Nequi’s employee value proposition, we talk about ‘curious minds’, that is, we look for people who connect with our purpose and who bring their talent to add, their essence is welcome and we work to create a space where they can be with all its potential.

People who feel protected and safe can offer their full potential at the service of others, this allows society to evolve and develop freely.
