American comedian and activist Tou Ger Xiong, 50, was found dead in a suspected kidnapping-turned-murder case in Colombia. Xiong, an Asian-American living in Minnesota, frequently visited Colombia and met the woman now arrested for allegedly luring him into a kidnapping plot.

Xiong’s brother, Eh Xiong, revealed that the suspect had been in contact with his brother before and was part of the “new friends” he made on his trips to Colombia. His brother also had multiple photos of the woman and her friends on his phone, making it easy for the police to track down the suspect and take her into custody.

Eh Xiong feared that the suspect was likely trying to win his brother’s trust before ultimately luring him into the kidnapping plot that ended with Xiong’s body found in a ravine with more than a dozen stab wounds.

According to Eh Xiong, his brother had been in contact with the kidnappers and requested $2,000 for his safe release, but the exchange never took place. Xiong’s body was eventually found in the ravine with stab wounds and multiple bruises.

Xiong, known for his advocacy and work as a comedian in the Asian-American community, was described by his brother as a champion for equality and someone who always used his wit and humor to bring joy and laughter to others. The Xiong family is working to set up a foundation in his name to carry on his work and help others.

Police are still investigating the case and have not yet publicly identified the suspect. Xiong’s family is awaiting a toxicology report and has urged caution for US tourists traveling to Colombia, warning of schemes in large cities where travelers may be drugged and fall victim to kidnapping plots.

The Woodbury, MN, community is in mourning over the death of Xiong, who was known for his compassion and dedication to helping fellow immigrants assimilate and find opportunities in Minnesota. The local advocate and comedian inspired many and touched countless lives, and his family hopes to continue his legacy through their foundation.
