In the coalition, do you get off the tree? The Chairman of the Constitution Committee, Member of Knesset Simcha Rotman, gave a statement to the media this morning (Sunday) at the entrance of the Constitution Committee in which he referred to President Haim Herzog’s dialogue initiative and said that he welcomes it: “I would be happy to talk with Hayut and the opposition at the President’s House even before the Knesset vote on the first reading “, called Rothman, but noted that “the date of the vote is not in my hands”.

“I welcome the president’s initiative that we all heard yesterday evening to hold real talks to restore the justice system. Long before the questions, it is important for me to say how excited I was to hear out of sincerity and concern,” said Rothman.

“We turned to peace and dialogue”: a senior Likud official in a conciliatory message about the president’s outline for legal reform

“The gaps that exist between the outlines are not negligible but not large, but do not justify prophecies of the apocalypse. There are good parts and there are parts that need to be adjusted. With honest communication, I believe that we can reduce the gaps so that we can reach a good plan. The president conveyed urgency and I believe that he hit the target.”

“Today ends part 1 of the committee in preparation for the vote in the plenum. The date of the vote is not in my hands. Already today and at the request of the president, I would be happy to sit down without delay, with every representative of the opposition to promote real dialogue even before the vote in the Knesset in the first reading. I call on the living and the leaders of the opposition: stand up and rise Zion to the President’s House without preconditions.’

As mentioned, today two laws are expected to come up in the committee for first reading as part of the legal reform of Justice Minister Yariv Levin. Voting in the first reading will begin at 09:30 and will be on changing the composition of the committee for the selection of judges and on the explicit statement that the High Court will not be able to interfere with fundamental laws enacted by the Knesset.

To the opposition members’ demand for a confidential discussion of the security implications before the vote, Rotman announced that the discussion would take place after the vote.
