In a surgical attack, deadly and based on quality intelligence in real time, Taysir Jabari, the commander of the northern military arm of the Islamic Jihad, was eliminated on Friday (8/5). After the assassination, the Air Force attacked a series of targets identified with the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip.
Thus began the “Dawn” operation, whose official goal is to thwart hostile sabotage activities of the GAP (Islamic Jihad Organization) terrorist organization.
As part of the air force strikes, Nimr Abu Amsha, the head of the information system of the organization’s military arm, the deputy commander of the anti-aircraft system, Abdullah Kadum, two squads he commanded were on their way to carry out an attack, and the head of the observation system of the northern Gaza Strip were also killed.
As of this writing, Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, sits on the sidelines and does not respond militarily, the IDF refrains from attacking targets belonging to Hamas and from bringing it into the circle of combat.
Time is now working against the GAP. The assets and infrastructure in its possession are being destroyed by the IDF, the opening blow of the IDF surprised it and caused a painful injury to the organization’s senior officials. The stock of armaments it possesses, the anti-tank missiles, rockets and other means, is dwindling.
Especially in light of the IDF’s vulnerability in the ammunition depots and production sites. The rocket and PGM barrages carried out by the organization are ineffective, most of them were intercepted or hit in open areas, and the organization is currently unable to produce photos of operational achievements.
In addition, Hamas does not join the campaign and does not assist, and even more, Hamas even conducts a dialogue with international and Arab parties to create calm.
Even in the internal arena GAP does not achieve major successes, it receives criticism from home for the fact that the campaign started because of it, the great damages that the IDF bombs caused, as well as for the closing of the crossings and the harm to trade. All of these, along with not supporting Hamas, are attributed to GAP’s duty.
All of these have a profound and important psychological impact on all levels – the internal one in the Gaza Strip, and the external one vis-a-vis the international community in general, and the Arab world in particular.
The Arab world and the international community are watching the moves of the IDF (which have even received full American backing), which have so far received a backlash on the one hand and, on the other hand, are creating a wide-ranging consciousness effect against the GAP.
The effect of awareness on GAP has several aspects. The first of which is the pressure from home and abroad for not supporting the organization, the second is that the IDF has a long hand – the attacks are deadly, precise, based on intelligence and avoid harming those not involved.
The senior officials of the organization feel the sword placed on their necks, along with a sense of penetration, the feeling that the IDF knows their hiding places, where the headquarters are located, the weapon depots, the production infrastructure and even more so where the senior officials of the organization are located.
Adding to the feeling of intrusion is the noise from the sky of dozens of aircraft, planes, helicopters and UAVs, hovering above and ready to attack at any opportunity. This, together with a naval blockade and the closing of the crossings – constitute another and important pillar in the fight for consciousness.
The IDF and the security system have so far demonstrated impressive moves, impressive coordination between all arms and the ability to close fire in a short time and with great precision. All of these contribute to producing important consciousness effects on GAP, Hamas, the Arab countries and the international community. It is important in the coming days to continue these moves, without bringing Hamas into the circle of combat, and to increase awareness efforts against GAP and Iran.
