Today’s Weather: Partly sunny, humid, possible p.m. storms

Comment: The heatwave continues to scorch us, with the temperature reaching a sweltering 93-97 degrees Fahrenheit today. It seems like we can’t catch a break from the relentless heat and humidity. The relief we’ve been hoping for will arrive in slow motion, with temperatures dropping to the seasonable lower 80s on the weekend.

Unfortunately, we are stuck in a weather pattern with a front stalling over our area. This means that we can expect shower and storm chances for at least the next four days. The good news is that most models predict about an inch of much-needed rain on average. However, the exact amounts of rainfall will vary from location to location.

Today, we can expect mostly sunny skies with light south winds. By the afternoon, some showers and storms are likely to develop, especially in the western areas. However, these showers and storms will be widely scattered in nature. The highs will reach the mid-90s, adding to the discomfort caused by the humidity. So make sure to stay hydrated and take precautions to beat the heat.

Tonight, the showers and storms may linger into the evening but should be hit or miss. There is a possibility of intense storms with damaging wind gusts, so it’s important to stay informed and be prepared. Clouds will linger overnight, and temperatures will settle near 70 degrees.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, we can expect a slight decrease in heat with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s. However, the humidity will still be uncomfortable. Just like today, we can expect clouds to develop with the heat, and scattered showers and storms are likely in the afternoon. The chances of showers and storms will dissipate after midnight, and temperatures will drop to the upper 60s and lower 70s.

The weekend will bring some relief from the heat, with highs in the mid- to upper 80s on Saturday and low to mid-80s on Sunday. However, the humidity will remain moderately high, and we can expect the familiar pattern of late afternoon and evening showers and storms. Overnight lows will be in the mid- to upper 60s.

On Monday, most of the showers will head up to New England, but we may still face the risk of isolated afternoon showers. The weather will be seasonably warm with highs mainly in the lower 80s. The humidity will be slightly less, which will come as a welcome change.
