Proposals for the partnership of the Municipality of Ioannita and the Region of Epirus with the agencies active in the refugee field, were discussed at the first meeting of the municipal working group for refugees and immigrants, with the participation of the vice-mayors Sofia Markoulas and Stefanos Sintou, the deputy governor of Epirus Agnis Naku , officials of the International Organization for Migration, the High Commission, agencies and NGOs dealing with refugees in the Ioannina area.
The representatives of the organizations presented their activities and discussed ways of cooperation for the smoother integration of refugees, with Mr. Markoula and Mr. Sinto stressing that the municipal authority will make every effort to assist the needs that already exist, as well as those that will arise in the refugee community, always within the scope and responsibilities of the Municipality of Ioannito.
Mrs. Naku, finally, referred to the importance of structuring programs that will strengthen the extroversion of the refugees and their “opening” to the local society.
