Foreign Minister Yair Lapid spoke at length with French President Emanuel Macron this evening (Saturday).
The conversation dealt with the regional challenges, the nuclear talks and Israel’s demand to put pressure on Iran, and Israel’s relations with the European Union.
Foreign Minister Lapid congratulated the President of France on the beginning of the French presidency of the European Union, and emphasized the importance of strengthening relations between Israel and the European Union and convening the Association Council.
President Macron reiterated his commitment to Israel’s security and stressed the importance of the warm relations between Israel and France. The conversation between the two follows Foreign Minister Lapid’s visit to Paris about a month and a half ago, which during the meeting discussed in detail the issue of resuming talks with Iran on the US return to the nuclear deal.
Lapid reiterated Israel’s position that Iran is trying to pull time to move forward with the nuclear program, and the immediate need to return sanctions to the powers and the urgent need for Plan B, in case the negotiations do not work.
