An important piece of news, that of the operation of the customs station in Drymaden, emerged at the 2nd Panpogonisiak Adamoma held on Saturday, August 12, in the yard of I.N. Dormition of the Virgin, in Sitaria of the Municipality of Pogoni.

The Adamoma is the continuation of the similar meeting that took place last year in Shoriades in neighboring Albania and was organized by the Municipalities of Pogoni, Dropolis – Pogoni, the Federation of Fraternities and Associations of the Province of Pogoni, the Cultural – Beautifying Association of Sitaria, the Ecclesiastical Committee of I.N. Sitarias and the Board of Directors of the Wheat Brotherhood.

In the presence of a large number of people, both from the villages of Pogoni and from the villages of the Greek minority in Albania, the common roots, the common culture and the common problems of the two regions were pointed out and it was underlined that a dynamic claim is needed to solve them.

The event started with a welcome from the organizers. The beginning was made by the President of the Federation of Fraternities and Associations of Pogoni District, Mr. Grigoris Arbiros, underlining that the cultural heritage is a “product” that can be a “tool” for tourism development for the wider area of ​​Pogoni.

The Mayor of Pogoni Kostas Kapsalis noted: “The only thing that separates Pogoni is the border” as they are two regions with common characteristics, common culture, history, tradition, morals and customs and thanked the Mayor of Dropoli – Pogoni for the kind cooperation. “It is a fact that we are experiencing a difficult period, but for the upliftment to come we must be united”, he characteristically said.

For his part, the Mayor of Dropolis – Pogoni Dimitris Tolis emphasized the help offered by the Municipality of Pogoni and personally by the Mayor K. Kapsalis to the villages of the Greek minority, saying characteristically: “I feel at home and this is due to my friend and brother Kostas Kapsali is interested in and offers the best to our villages”. At the same time, he underlined that Pogoni is united by the same blood and the same destiny, pointing out key issues that must be resolved, such as that of road axes.

This was followed by greetings from the officials. The Deputy Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Maria Kefala, emphasized that the State is on Pogoni’s side and is willing to support the region, while she spoke of a “rejuvenation of the soul” and of a tradition that remains unchanged over time.

The news of the operation of the Drymados customs station was the one that stood out in the greeting of the Epirus Regional Governor Alexandros Kahrimanis, a constant request as the operation of the station will reduce distances and serve the movements of many residents. “Serious moves must be made to “unite” the two regions. The Deputy Minister of the Interior, Mr. Livanios, spoke of a decision made and requested that the Region prepare the study to improve the road network in the minority villages”, he noted. At the same time, he made extensive reference to the completion of the Ionian Road, characterizing it as a primary issue for the region and beyond.

The Consul of Greece in Argyrokastro, Dimitris Sahaidis, mentioned the road axis, as well as other projects that need to be implemented, emphasizing that the Region of Epirus and the Municipality of Pogoni contribute to infrastructure projects by supporting and helping minority villages.

“Inversely proportional to its size is the history of Pogoni” according to the 1st Vice-President of the Pan-Pilotic Confederation of Greece Marika Gioni who stated that the Pogoni culture has purity and consistency, while the President of the Wheat Brotherhood Evangelos Paliokostas pointed out the need for a joint effort for preservation of the intangible cultural heritage. Finally, the vice-president of the Beautician-Cultural Association, Babis Mitsionis, invited the young people to join in this effort, emphasizing that Sitaria can play an important role in this direction and thanked the Mayor of Pogoni and the municipal authority for the support.

“Today’s meeting comes to emphasize the common and identical cultural characteristics of the two regions, the language with the purest Greek accent, the traditions, the customs, the polyphonic song and the absolute white of the Pogonisia and Deropolitan women’s costume, this impressive landmark of ours “, noted, among other things, in his speech on “Cultural Paths of Solidarity and Development”, the writer and researcher Kon/nos Kostoulas, noting that Adamoma is also a record of a common development path from the past, a common path of advancement that has left the stamp of development in their history.

Adamoma could not miss the polyphonic song and dance with the Polyphonic Song Association of Pogonisi, the Polyphonic Association of Kossiovitsa, the Women’s Dance Association of Kefalovryssos and the “Dropoli” Dance Association and Cultural Association gaining impressions while the event ended with a free dance.
