The 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games will begin on the 28th of this month in Birmingham, England. More than 5,000 athletes from 72 Commonwealth countries will participate in this 12-day event. India, one of the powerhouses of the Games, has arrived in Birmingham with 215 athletes. India’s goal this time will be a century in the medal tally. This will also be the 18th Commonwealth Games in which India will participate.
India won 66 medals including 26 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze in the 21st Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast in 2018. 16 of these golds came from shooting. But this time shooting is not part of the games. India’s best ever performance was at the Games hosted by New Delhi in 2010. India had collected 101 medals and finished second. Can India surpass this feat this time? Wait and see.
