Tamilndu Sprinter Dhanalakshmi Sekar and Triple Jumper Aishwarya Babu Fail Dope Test for CWG 2022 Tamil News: Tamil Nadu sprinter Dhanalakshmi has been dropped from the Commonwealth Games Indian team after failing the doping test.

Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games: The Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham, England from 28th to 8th August. Tamil Nadu athlete Thanalekshmi and Karnataka athlete Aishwarya Babu, who were part of the Indian team for this event, have been dropped from the Commonwealth Games Indian team after failing doping tests.

The 24-year-old Tamil Nadu athlete Thanalekshmi was included in the Commonwealth Games Indian team in the 100m and relay events. He was tested positive for a banned steroid in an overseas doping test conducted by the International Association of Athletics Federations (AIU).

“Dhanalakshmi has been found positive in a doping test conducted by AIU. He will not participate in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham,” said a top AIU official.

Thanalakshmi made it to the Indian team for the 100m and 4x100m relays along with Duti Chand, Hima Das and Srabani Nanda. He was also included in the Indian squad for the ongoing World Championship in Eugene, USA. But due to visa issues, he could not get a place in the showpiece.

Thanalakshmi won gold in the 200m in 22.89 seconds at the Kosanov Memorial Athletics meet on 26 June. She became the third Indian woman under 23 (22.88s) after national record holder Saraswati Saha (22.82s) and Hima Das.

Meanwhile, Thanalakshmi has been dropped from the Commonwealth Games Indian team after failing a doping test.

Similarly, Karnataka state athlete Aishwarya Babu’s (24-year-old) doping sample taken by NADA officials during the National Inter-State Athletics Championship in Chennai last month also came back positive. Due to this, he has been removed from the Commonwealth Games Indian athletics team in the triple jump (triple jump) and long jump categories.

Triple jumper Aishwarya Babu

“Triple jumper Aishwarya Babu’s sample taken during the National Inter-State Championship has come back positive,” an athletic source said.

Aishwarya broke the national record in the triple jump with a distance of 14.14m to emerge as the undisputed star of the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship (June 10-14) in Chennai.

He attempted 6.73 meters in the long jump qualification during the Chennai Games. This is the second longest individual record by an Indian woman in long jump after Anju Bobby George (6.83m).
