Minister of Youth and Sports Ahmed Al-Mubarqa confirmed today, Thursday, that communication with the sports media is very important, as it is an important link between institutions and sports fans.
A statement by the ministry – received by the (INA) – stated that “Minister of Youth and Sports Ahmed Al-Mubarqa chaired a meeting of the Professional Conduct Code Committee for Sports Media, in the presence of the Prime Minister’s advisors for youth and sports affairs, the head of the Iraqi Football Association, the head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, the head of the Iraqi Media Network Karim Hammadi, the director of the Prime Minister’s media office, and representatives of the Supreme Judicial Council and the State Council advisor.”
Al-Mubarqa’ stressed that “the new Iraq is free of prisoners of opinion,” stressing at the same time the “necessity that freedom not be devoid of limitations and controls.”
He explained that “sports media is of great importance and enjoys a high degree of privacy with the presence of dozens of sports programmes broadcast on public and specialised channels”, stressing that “communication with sports media is very important; as it is an important link between institutions and sports audiences”.
The statement continued, “Al-Mubarqa’ thanked the great efforts made by the Council of Ministers, the Council’s Advisory Council for Youth and Sports Affairs, and the legal experts from the Supreme Judicial Council and the State Council, for the purpose of producing a solid and professional code.”
Al-Mubarqa’ pointed out “the importance of the introduction to this work including something explanatory that shows the advantage of the new Iraq, which does not accept the gagging of mouths, and that the code is to regulate freedom of expression.”
The statement continued, “At the end of the meeting, everyone agreed on the necessity of coming up with a final code that guarantees rights and duties in line with Iraqi laws, internal regulations and bylaws of the Communications and Media Commission and the Journalists Syndicate; to establish rules of professional conduct with neutrality and objectivity, far from abuse and defamation, and to commit to transmitting news without falsification.”
