The temporary employees of the bank have held a human chain and sit-in program to demand the permanent employment of all the temporary employees of Community Bank Bangladesh PLC.
On Sunday (September 8) around 11 am, the human chain and sit-in program was held in front of the bank’s head office located at Police Plaza Concord, Gulshan-1, Dhaka.
The temporary employees in the program said, ‘Contractual employees working as Customer Service Executives and Contact Center Executives of the Bank are currently engaged on a contractual basis for more than four years in various districts, branches and head offices all over Bangladesh. Despite the promises from the bank, they have been subjected to various kinds of dramatic actions and discrimination in the last few years in terms of job permanence. Currently most of them are above 30-32 years of age so they are not getting any job opportunities elsewhere. Apart from this, as per the framework of the law, they are also deprived of provident fund and gratuity benefits. So they have to make their job permanent at any cost. If not, they warned to continue this program continuously.’
The speakers also said, ‘Since the time of formation of the bank, they have been working in various divisions and districts till now and they are working tirelessly for the interest of the bank. Even during Corona their services were not stopped. Apart from this, they have played the most important role in bringing the bank to this successful stage today. Besides, there are no bank branches in all the districts of Bangladesh and at least seven-eight officers-employees work in one branch, instead of the seven-eight officers-employees mentioned in each district, there is only one CSE without any kind of office device. Providing services in a fair and disciplined manner and also playing a pioneering role for the bank’s business (FDR, DPS, Loans, Credit Cards including new account openings) every month. Yet they are being underestimated all the time. Instead of making them permanent, the management is bringing people from other banks and putting them in permanent positions.
Alleging that the bank is treating them in a discriminatory way, they further said, ‘Boys and girls who have completed masters like them, are being treated with great discrimination by keeping them on contract for more than four years. As a result, they are suffering from great inferiority in family and social life.
At that time, several hundred temporary contractual CSEs (Customer Service Executives) and CCEs (Call Center Executives) of the bank were present.
Community Bank Bangladesh plc is a listed private commercial bank of the country. Community Bank started its journey as the 59th commercial bank of Bangladesh on September 11, 2019. Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust manages this bank. They also have Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members on their board of directors. At present, the bank is providing banking services through 108 service desks across the country with 18 branches and some sub-branches in 64 districts. The head office of the bank is located at Police Plaza Concord, Gulshan-1, Dhaka.
