Santiago de Cali, July 22, 2024

The Cali Mayor’s Office, through the Administrative Department of Planning, invites the citizens of Cali to participate in the third day of citizen participation and construction for the review of the Special Plan for Management and Protection of the Historical Center of Cali.

The ‘Preliminary presentation, recognition, and complementing of the citizen diagnosis’ will take place in the Madera Room of the Cali Cultural Center, this July 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.

The citizen participation strategy seeks to identify issues and promote recognition and collective construction of actions aimed at the protection, conservation, sustainability, and use of Cultural Interest Goods in the Historical Center of Cali, in collaboration with the community. This also aims to encourage territorial ownership by citizens.

So far, three meetings have been held with the participation of 267 citizens who have contributed their knowledge and expertise about what is happening in the territory.

In the first meeting, which took place on June 18 at the Cali Cultural Center, the Deputy Director of Territorial Planning, Diego Andrés Giraldo Arboleda, along with the technical team, presented the background and process that must be undergone during the review of the Special Plan for Management and Protection of the Historical Center (PEMP-CH) of Santiago de Cali to the citizens.

In the second and third meetings, participatory diagnostic workshops were developed, in which the attendees identified problematic situations in the study area of the PEMP-CH on thematic maps. These meetings took place on June 25 at CALI 3, located in the San Antonio neighborhood, and on June 27 at the Cali Cultural Center.

Through these citizen participation days, the administration of Mayor Alejandro Eder, with the technical support of the Subdirectorate of Territorial Planning of the Administrative Department of Planning, aims to create impactful spaces and encourage citizen participation in the collective construction of the city and in defining actions directed at the protection, conservation, sustainability, and utilization of Cultural Interest Goods in the Historical Center of Cali.

As another participatory tool for the diagnostic phase, the Santiago de Cali Mayor’s Office has made available a perception and valuation survey for the PEMP-CH study area, which seeks to incorporate the views of people who cannot participate in person and who also have much to contribute to this process.
