Director of Companies Authority Requests Prime Minister’s Intervention to Address Governmental Vacuum

Michal Rosenbaum, the director of the Companies Authority, has written a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu seeking urgent intervention to address the challenging situation at the authority. Rosenbaum described the situation as a “governmental vacuum” that is causing significant damage to government companies.

In her letter, Rosenbaum outlined her previous exchanges with Minister Amsalem, stating that he has refused to take responsibility for the authority of government companies and has shown no intention of taking any action in this regard. She also highlighted that the minister has accused the ombudsman’s opinion on the appointment of directors in government companies as a “putsch” and expressed disciplinary offense concerns.

Rosenbaum further explained that Minister Amsalem’s conduct has hindered the withdrawal of dividends from government companies, with an unprecedented amount of approximately NIS 2 billion available for withdrawal. Keeping these funds within the treasury of the companies risks improper use, but the minister has refused to promote their transfer to the state treasury.

The director cited additional instances where the lack of ministerial involvement has seriously harmed public interest, the functioning of government companies, and the public purse.

Concluding her plea, Rosenbaum directly addressed Prime Minister Netanyahu, emphasizing the need for urgent intervention to prevent further damage caused by the governmental vacuum. She urged the prime minister to make an urgent decision within the relevant forum, particularly the government plenary.

The Companies Authority plays a crucial role in overseeing government companies and ensuring their compliance with laws and regulations. With the absence of ministerial involvement, Rosenbaum raises concerns about the negative consequences for the public interest and government company operations.

It remains to be seen how Prime Minister Netanyahu will respond to Rosenbaum’s request and what steps will be taken to address the governmental vacuum at the Companies Authority.
