UOur early encounters were like circling planets. When you came to Adorno’s for tea, he would point to the window of the back building and say a very talented editor lives there. That was Enzensberger, that is, he lived exactly on the other side of the Kettenhofweg and in the immediate vicinity of the Suhrkamp publishing house. Enzensberger was already very close to Adorno, and Habermas was also his assistant at the time.
Enzensberger was a very alert, rebellious spirit, anchored on the one hand in the Stuttgart night studio with Alfred Andersch and Helmut Heissenbüttel and in Frankfurt in this circle. The café where everyone frequented was eighty meters from his apartment and was something very lively that probably no longer exists in Frankfurt, and that led to 1962.
