The Santa Catarina company Weg is the company with the largest number of shareholders in the ranking from the list Forbes Brazilian Billionaires 2023. The conquest of the privileged position results from a change in the evaluation methodology, which now considers the fortune of mothers and children together, following the change in the Forbes USA.
According to the magazine, family members and descendants of the founders together own more than R$85 billion.

The company is also responsible for making Santa Catarina stand out in another list: the states with the most billionaires. There are 35 in total, second only to São Paulo, which has 111, and Rio de Janeiro, with 40.
What does WEG do?
With revenues of almost BRL 30 billion in 2022, Weg is recognized as one of the largest manufacturers of electrical equipment in the world.
The company, founded in 1961 by Werner Ricardo Voigt, Eggon João da Silva and Geraldo Werninghaus, in the city of Jaraguá do Sul, in Santa Catarina, started with a capital of 3,600 cruzeiros. The name is the junction of the initial of the three.

In the beginning, its production was basically electric motors. In the 1980s, however, new products joined the catalog, such as electronic components, products for industrial automation, power and distribution transformers, liquid and powder paints and electro-insulating varnishes.

The expansion was not only in the variety of goods. At that time, its exports already reached 20 countries, such as Guatemala, Uruguay, Paraguay, Ecuador and Bolivia.
The company’s first billion came in 2002.
Today, the multinational is present in five continents, has branches in 37 countries and factories in 15. It has 39,000 employees, of which more than 4,300 are engineers. All to account for a portfolio of more than 1,500 product lines.
