Madurai: Yogamalar from Trichy was working as sub-registrar. As he passed away in 2020, son Vinod Khanna filed a petition in the Madurai branch of the High Court seeking compassionate employment.

After hearing this, the High Court ordered to consider the request of the petitioner. But challenging the order, Vinodkhanna’s sister Mahalakshmi filed an appeal in the High Court branch. The petition came up for hearing in a bench comprising Justices G. Jayachandran and KK Ramakrishnan.

Vinod Khanna has his own house and lands. It was contended by Mahalakshmi that she was not dependent on her mother. Subsequently, the judges ordered, “Compassionate appointment is not a hereditary right of a government employee who dies while on duty. One can get compassionate appointment only if he fulfills the government’s conditions. No one can claim a compassionate job as a right. Therefore, the appeal is dismissed.”
