Chennai: The Chennai Motor Vehicle Accident Compensation Tribunal has ordered a compensation of Rs 10.44 lakh to the petrol ‘punk’ employee who died in a collision with a government bus.

Manokaran, 57, of Williwak; Petrol station employee. On July 24, 2017, he sat on the back of his friend’s two-wheeler.

The Villupuram State Transport Corporation bus collided with the two-wheeler driven by Manokaran while approaching Dadankuppam signal at Villivakkam.

He was seriously injured and died at the hospital. In this situation, Manokaran’s wife Tilakavathi filed a case in the Motor Vehicle Accident Compensation Tribunal, Chennai, seeking compensation of Rs 50 lakh for her husband’s death.

The case was heard before the Small Claims Court Judge Dileep. On investigation, the cause of the accident was that the driver of the bus was driving too fast and recklessly.

In this, the judge ordered that the management of the Villupuram State Transport Corporation should pay a compensation of 10.44 lakh rupees to the petitioner with 7.5 percent interest per annum.
