Mumbai,
In the 8th World Cup, the Indian team lost to England in the semi-final. This led to many criticisms regarding the selection of players in the Indian team. The fans were demanding that more opportunities should be given to the young players in the Indian team.
Following the World Cup defeat, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ordered the removal of all members of the selection committee of the Indian team led by Chetan Sharma. Harvinder Singh, Sunil Joshi and Debashish Mohanty have been dropped.
At the same time, BCCI had announced that applications are being invited for 5 posts including chairman in the selection committee. This action order by BCCI created a stir in the cricket community.
In this case, it was reported that Hemang Pathani, a former cricketer from Tamil Nadu, has applied for the post of chairman of the selection committee of the Indian cricket team. However, Hemang Pathani denied this information.
In this regard, he said on his Twitter page,
To all my dear fans, friends.. I am posting this here for some clarification. Although I am proud and honored to be a part of the BCCI Selection Committee, I would like to clarify that I have not applied for the post of BCCI Selection Committee as has been reported in various media. My best wishes to all who applied.
This is what he posted.
