Time.news – Feminism’s most powerful weapon? “It was the sisterhood”, writes the Paìs, according to which “there are more and more initiatives that seek to create, often in exclusive spaces for women, an atmosphere of trust and security in which they can afford to feel less vulnerable”. And he concludes: “Although men are fundamental when it comes to finding solutions to achieve equality, after 5,000 years of patriarchy, in these spaces women exercise their right to express themselves, to be heard and to feel at ease”. What is it about?

The Madrid daily reports that in New York the latest example of this trend towards self-awareness to feel stronger and break down bias is The Füde Experience, an artistic initiative which consists of pop-up events that revolve around an activity: a dinner, a sculpture workshop, meditation, which have a particularity at their core: the obligation to be completely naked. Meetings that cost around 88 dollars, 79 euros, to which to access you have to fill out a questionnaire, and based on your answers you are accepted.

The idea, we read, came from plus size American model Charlie Ann Max, 29, who first started organizing the meetings in Los Angeles and has recently been preparing at least one a month in New York, but also intends to propose them in Madrid and Barcelona in August. The meetings already have thousands of requests on the waiting list for an age of those who intend to participate ranging from 20 to 55 years.

For example, the journalist from the Spanish newspaper who took part in the meeting held on April 21 in New York collected this statement: ““This is the third time I have frequented Füde and, as on other occasions, I feel that coming here has changed me the life. I am deeply grateful for the tremendous healing effect of these events.” There are those who not only repeat the experience after some time, but also those who “have never missed a meeting”.

“Initially, The Füde was reserved for women, non-binary and queer people to guarantee a safe space for anyone who might feel uncomfortable undressing in front of men” because in order to “achieve equality it is important to promote spaces in which women can listen to each other, without male mediation”, reflects the professor of Political Science and Sociology of the Fátima Arranz Lozano Complutense University But this does not mean that there are no mixed spaces.

In fact, as the experience evolved, Charlie Ann Max realized that the important thing was to include all gender identities, but men are only accepted if they have a direct recommendation from someone who has attended one of the events. “The freedom that being naked gives is also an act of surrender”, explains Max, who underlines how the fact of not making being undressed sexual is fundamental: “In order for the participants to access their purest selves, the security it’s my top priority.”

After all, she herself explains: “By eliminating the expectations and social judgments linked to nudity, we favor the connection with our body and that of othersi, deeply and without being judged. Personally, I’ve had a hard time coming to terms with myself because of how toxic body culture is. But being naked has helped me heal my body dysmorphia. I have become much stronger,” concludes the creator of The Füde. And now the men who participate are also benefiting.

“It’s not just about making women feel comfortable, it’s also about make sure they feel heard”, concludes the Paìs, because “the important thing is to understand that individual experience is also a collective political experience”.
