CHENNAI: Complaints have been raised against the registrars that they are registering legally problematic deeds on Saturdays. In Tamil Nadu, deed registration is done through 575 sub-registrar offices. In this, bond registration will be done from Monday to Friday in the week. These days, common people come to bond registration only after taking leave from work.
As a solution to this problem, the program of registering bonds on Saturdays was announced recently. Initially, the program of registering bonds on Saturdays was started in 100 offices where more bonds are registered. In offices where up to 200 bonds are registered daily on weekdays, only 10 or 20 bonds are reported to be registered on Saturdays.

In this regard, the officials of the registration department said: We are constantly monitoring the manner in which the deed registration scheme is implemented on Saturdays. In most of the offices, full-time sub-registrars do not come for registration on that day. It is said that there are objections related to property, pending cases, deeds related to unauthorized land are registered on Saturdays.
We are monitoring the matter. If legal violations are found, strict action will be taken against the concerned sub-registrars. We have advised the registrars not to misuse the scheme which was brought with good intentions.
