Mettmann. The consequences of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria also affected many students at Mettmann Comprehensive School. Some children have relatives there or have their own roots in the region. The school now wants to help with a fundraiser.

After the earthquake catastrophe in Turkey and Syria, the students wanted to become active and make their own contribution to the relief effort. After joint consideration, a waffle sale was organized. On Altweiber-Thursday, more than ten kilograms of flour and more than 100 eggs were processed into waffles in the school kitchen all morning long in order to sell them for a donation. This raised 460 euros in proceeds, which were handed over in person on Friday by the student representatives at the local mosque, which has direct contacts in the region.

“Even if the sum is only a small contribution against the suffering in this catastrophe, I am very impressed by the initiative and implementation of the campaign,” says headmaster Matthias Messing. “Children are often underestimated. Here, ten to twelve-year-olds have shown what they are made of. We are very proud to have such students at the school.”
