The Purge case continues to generate reactions in other entities of the State. This March 6, 2024, Comptroller Mauricio Torres reported that there are 63 judges of the Court of Justice of Guayas who will begin asset examinations.

Comptroller Mauricio Torres attended the Constitutional Guarantees Commission of the Assembly.

“Tomorrow or next week at the latest we will start with special exams for the judges of the province of Guayas,” said Torres. These exams will be carried out on 63 judges from that province and there are about 423 periodic asset declarations and the beginning and end of management.

Asset declarations are documents that every public servant is obliged to present at the beginning and end of his administration. Periodic statements must also be submitted.

Torres mentioned that these exams were planned for this year. However, since the Purge Case “it is important to contribute to the country with this investigation,” mentioned the Comptroller.

On the night of Tuesday, March 5, 2024, it was learned that Judge Javier De La Cadena issued preventive detention for nine people involved in the Purge case. Among them are the former president of the Provincial Court of Justice of Guayas, María Fabiola G. and the judge of the same Court, Johan M.

Torres also announced that examinations of the sworn statements to the generals of the Armed Forces were begun. It is expected that the results of the diagnosis will be expected within three months.

Regarding police generals, Torres pointed out that there have already been results. Of the nearly 22 reports, three showed signs of criminal responsibility and were sent to the Prosecutor’s Office./ El Telégrafo.
