Computerization of liquor sales to prevent fraud Computerization of liquor sale to prevent malpractice

by time news

CHENNAI: Tasmac has decided to implement a program to computerize the entire sale of liquor to prevent irregularities. A ‘tender’ has been called for selecting the contractor for the same.

Tamil Nadu government’s TASMAC sells liquor through 5,341 outlets. Beer is procured from seven companies and liquor from 11 companies.

The type of liquor sent from the warehouses to the stores is recorded in the computer. But, the sales details of the shops are not recorded in the computer.

As a result, the shop staff, as per the instructions of the district managers, engage in malpractices such as giving more priority to a particular type of company liquor, understating the money collected from the sale of liquor, and selling box to box to the same person.

To prevent this, a complete computerization scheme is being implemented from the warehouses to the delivery of the liquor to the shops and selling it to the ‘drinkers’.

Under this scheme, liquor shops will be provided with ‘barcode scanner’ equipment. In which the wine bottle should be sold only after ‘scanning’ it. All stores will be integrated through web software.

In this way, high officials and managers can monitor the information such as liquor sales, liquor stock, and cash collected from time to time in each store from anywhere in the computer.

Presently, tender is invited to select a contractor for computerized software development, ‘barcode’ equipment ‘supply’ and maintenance works.

It is planned to select a suitable company soon and start the computerization work.
