The Medicine degree is not only the most extensive that exists but also one of the most expensive. It is not only about buying uniforms and books, but also constant training must prevail. Here a paradox is generated starring the National Regulatory Committee of Medical Specialty Councils (CONACEM), which is in charge of issuing medical certifications.

In this case, keeping up-to-date generates a double benefit because not only does the doctor increase his or her knowledge, but it also offers security to the patient. The ultimate goal is guarantee a decent and quality service.

The problem begins because medical certifications in Mexico are quite expensive and one of those responsible is the WE KNOW For the same reason, for some years it has been proposed that it disappear and that its faculties be transferred to another authority.

When and why did it arise?

This Committee was founded in 2011 and since then it has been the body in charge of evaluating the skills of specialists. In theory, it is a positive aspect because it requires doctors to update themselves periodically to properly care for patients.

While one of the inconveniences lies in the increase in bureaucratic procedures. Some medical certification exams cost up to 30,000 pesos. But perhaps the most serious thing is that there are also suspicions of alleged illegal acts.

Therefore, a proposal that has been raised is to reform the General law of health. The goal is to disappear WE KNOW and that now the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) is in charge of medical certifications.

Deputies oppose the disappearance of CONACEM

Despite all the attempts that have been made, it has not been possible and the most recent proposal has not prospered either. On this occasion the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved to discard a bill of the Senate of the Republic that sought to eliminate CONACEM.

In this regard, the federal deputy Emmanuel Reyes He published the reasons that led him not to allow the minutes. Through his social networks, he affirmed that peer certification is an international practice that promotes the quality of health services and is necessary for quality health for Mexicans.

It also makes it clear that both the title and the professional license do fall entirely to the SEP. Instead, the medical certification is the responsibility of CONACEM. This guarantees that a specialist with several years of experience has maintained training and did not remain with the knowledge when he was a resident.
