Paris: Amid world concerns over the spread of the Kovid variant Omicron, the latest variant, Ihu, has been confirmed in France. The disease was confirmed in 12 people in southern France.
The disease was first confirmed in a man who had returned to the African country of Cameroon. It was later discovered that the disease had spread to close relatives. This variant is estimated to be more contagious than omicron.
The disease was confirmed by researchers at IHU (Mediterranean Infection). That is why the variant B.1.640.2 was named ‘Ihu’. This variant, found in Marseille, southern France, has been genetically modified 46 times since the first Kovid variant to spread to Wuhan. The virus is also more likely to be immunized against vaccines due to multiple mutations.
Research is progressing on whether the ‘Ihu’ variant increases mortality. Until approved by the World Health Organization, the new pathogen will be known as Ihu.
