jpnn.comJAKARTA – Chairman of Commission I DPR RI Meutya Hafid asked the Indonesian Army to actively collect data on losses to the community affected by the fire and explosion of the ammunition warehouse belonging to Kodam Jaya, Bogor Regency, last Saturday (30/3).

“The TNI AD must be responsible for compensating for losses if there are losses in the community due to the fire incident,” said Meutya in a press statement, Sunday (31/3).

On the other hand, the former television journalist hopes that the Indonesian Army can improve ammunition storage in the future to prevent fires and explosions.

Apart from that, said Meutya, the TNI AD could implement technical instructions regarding the maintenance and upkeep of ammunition within the TNI more strictly in the future.

“Handling of this incident was carried out quickly and appropriately to avoid further damage to TNI facilities and local residents,” he said.

Previously, the Medan Artillery (Armed) ammunition warehouse belonging to Kodam Jaya on the Bogor-Bekasi border, precisely in Gunung Putri sub-district, Bogor Regency, West Java, exploded on Saturday at around 18.30 WIB.

Head of the Indonesian Army Information Service (Kadispenad), Brigadier General Kristomei Sianturi, when contacted in Jakarta, Saturday, said that so far the authorities are still having difficulty getting close to the location of the fire, so for now the priority is evacuating residents around the munitions warehouse.

“We have evacuated the residents to a safer place, and the babinsa (village supervisory officer, ed.) continues to coordinate with other agencies to secure the people there,” said Brigadier General TNI Kristomei, Saturday. (ast/jpnn)
