In an interview with Latvian Television’s “Morning Panorama” program, he reminded that Ukraine has so far received very solid aid from the United States, while it is led by the current administration with a president from the Democratic Party. On the other hand, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s statements in the pre-election atmosphere “may have been made in his style”, however, it is important to note that the Ukrainian side, judging by public communication, is satisfied with the outcome of the last telephone conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump, said Riekstins.

“Because I think that maybe these concerns are a little exaggerated, and we should also look, of course, at how international aid to Ukraine will continue in general, not only from the United States, but also from other countries, both in Europe and in Asia,” said the ambassador.

The diplomat also recalled the agreement reached during the recent NATO summit in Washington, on the part of the alliance to maintain the support provided to Ukraine’s military needs at the same level for at least next year, with a commitment to evaluate the possibility of continuing to provide this assistance in the future, if Ukraine needs it, at the 2025 summit.

“I would say that the decisions of a political nature, which have just been made, at least give me confidence that this assistance will continue,” said Riekstiņš.
