Islamabad: A massive condom scam worth crores of rupees has emerged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan. Local journalist Lehaj Ali has exposed the shocking details in a report.
The scam involved the inflated procurement of condoms in multiple cities like Waziristan and Peshawar. Records indicate that the supply of condoms in North Waziristan has been inflated by several times the actual male population. Ali claims that 12 lakh condoms were officially ordered but never delivered to hospitals.
According to Ali, the Health Ministry of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced a family planning program to distribute 12 lakh condoms at a cost of 2.5 crores. The funds were released just seven days after the order was placed. However, a glaring inconsistency emerged when it was discovered that the condoms listed for January supply had a manufacturing date of April 2024, indicating fraud.
The scam resulted in the questionable distribution of 7 lakh condoms to North Waziristan, despite the area having a male population of only 3.5 lakh. Similarly, 2 lakh condoms were claimed to be supplied in Peshawar, with hospital administrations in both cities denying any such delivery. The discrepancy raises serious questions about the transparency and accountability of the procurement process.
