Tereza Durova’s theater has lost an outstanding music director
He survived Nord-Ost when, together with his musicians, he sat in the orchestra pit, which the scum terrorists turned into a cesspool. But he did not survive the coronavirus. Maxim Gutkin, an immense talent, composer, conductor and musical director of Teresa Durova’s Teatrium, died on June 15 in a hospital at the Inozemtsev hospital in Sokolniki.
Teresa Durova’s theater is shocked and numb. How could this have happened when Maxim had just conducted the preview of the play “Heather Honey”? He wrote amazing music for him, conveying the traditions of the musical culture of Scotland. And what kind of music he wrote for all the performances of the Teatrium! He was the true co-writer of the director Teresa Durova. A subtle musician, he knew how to assemble unique compositions of musicians who own unique ethnic instruments – Indian, Karelian-Finnish, Japanese or Arab. About which country the performance was staged in the Teatrium, such music sounded, performed on unique instruments, songs sounded in the original language.
Maxim Gutkin is a perfectionist, he did not even allow the thought of imitating ethnic culture – the sound must be genuine, fully consistent with the content. He set the bar high for the orchestra musicians – under his direction the orchestra sounded divine. The music director not only demanded impeccable sound from musicians and artists, but also educated them as performers.
Two weeks ago, Maxim released a new performance, the premiere of which was scheduled for September. The family audience invited to the preview was delighted – a powerful performance that opened up a new country for children and adults in all its aspects, including musical. Bright music, songs … and Maxim Gutkin has already begun to prepare for a new production. Musical Moscow knew and appreciated him as a professional.
Two days after the preview, he felt unwell, went to the doctor. The diagnosis is covid, 50 percent of the lungs are affected. He was sent to the hospital, where he was immediately taken to intensive care. The condition was moderately severe, the course of the disease was under control, and no one could admit the thought that Maxim would not be able to cope if the more severe patients could cope. Did not cope. He survived the horror of Nord-Ost and did not survive the terrible illness.
