Two years after his appointment as head of the Paris Opera orchestra, the Venezuelan conductor resigned on Thursday May 25 from his post as musical director of the prestigious phalanx. “It is with a heavy heart, and after careful consideration, that I announce my resignation from the position of musical director of the Paris Opera in order to spend more time with my family”, he delivers in a press release from the Opera. “We are living in a time which, I believe, has profoundly and intimately changed our beings”, specifies the conductor, before concluding: “I have no other plans than to be with my loved ones.»
For his part, the director general of the Paris Opera, Alexander Neef, thanked a chef “whose passion and immense talent have brought much to our house repertoire.” “The recent success of Nixon in China is one of the most striking illustrations of this. Gustavo Dudamel is an immense musician. I express my deep gratitude to him for the work accomplished during his tenure, and I fully respect his decision,” continues the director.
