On November 2, 2019, a Villupuram Government Transport Corporation bus was coming from Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Nellore towards Chennai.

The case came up for hearing before Chief Justice Chandrasekaran of the Court of Small Causes. After arguments from both sides, the judge delivered the verdict:

The cause of the accident was over speeding and careless driving by the bus driver. Deceased Weeramuthu was working as a master conductor.

Therefore, Villupuram State Transport Corporation should pay Rs.21.34 lakh as compensation to the petitioners with interest at 7.5 per cent per annum.
