On November 2, 2019, a Villupuram Government Transport Corporation bus was coming from Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Nellore towards Chennai.
A bus collided with the back of a lorry on the Dadankuppam railway bridge at Villivakkam. In this, conductor Weeramuthu, 53, who was seriously injured, succumbed to his injuries.
In this case, wife Gauri and son Deepak filed a case in Chennai Motor Vehicle Accident Compensation Tribunal, demanding compensation of 75 lakh rupees for the death of her husband.
The case came up for hearing before Chief Justice Chandrasekaran of the Court of Small Causes. After arguments from both sides, the judge delivered the verdict:
The cause of the accident was over speeding and careless driving by the bus driver. Deceased Weeramuthu was working as a master conductor.

Therefore, Villupuram State Transport Corporation should pay Rs.21.34 lakh as compensation to the petitioners with interest at 7.5 per cent per annum.
