(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 30 – Seaside destinations are confirmed as the most requested for summer 2024, with an increase in bookings from domestic customers (+1.5%) and those from foreign customers, which even recorded a +6.3% compared to last year according to calculations by the Italian Association of Hotel Industry. In addition to Italians, those choosing to stay at seaside resorts are primarily Germans and Swiss, followed by the French who prefer the Italian coasts to the spectacle offered by the ongoing Olympics. To date, in the 5 weeks of the month, over 85% of the rooms have been booked with the third week, that of Ferragosto, already sold out. August 2024 is a mixed bag for art cities: while in the first two weeks of the month, hotel bookings are more or less in line with last year, starting from the third week, to date, the number of bookings recorded is lower than in 2023. The data is affected by the drop in bookings by Italians, not offset in the first 3 weeks by the increase in bookings by foreign customers. The situation worsens starting from the fourth week of August where the drop in Italians is accompanied by a slight decrease (-0.1%) in bookings by international customers. Venice maintains its high appeal and in the first two weeks of August the room occupancy rate stands at over 72% and then drops to 65% in the following three weeks. The results are slightly lower for Rome, 70% in the first ten days of the month and 60% in the period from 12 to 31 August. The same trend also for Milan where the data on bookings from 1 to 11 August stands at 60% and then decreases to 50% in the last three weeks of the month. The internal areas also respond well this summer. “The constant interest by international tourism also towards seaside destinations is an important factor and can represent a valid stimulus to increase the shoulder months, periods in which foreign travellers often choose to visit our locations. The phenomenon, if well managed, can contribute to lengthening the season and generate new travel motivations by favoring a sustainable redistribution of flows in periods in which demand is physiologically lower” says Maria Carmela Colaiacovo, president of the Italian Association of Confindustria Hotels.
