Conference “Asia Minor Disaster and Dodecanese” at the War Museum

Conference on “Asia Minor Disaster and the Dodecanese” and an exhibition with photographic material from Asia Minor and the Dodecanese at the War Museum of Athens (Rizari 2-4), on October 29 (17:00-20:30), with the participation of associations from Greece and cultural institutions.

In the context of the conference, Dodecanese and Asia Minor refugee associations will present, through extensive historical research, folklore reports as well as experiential experiences – oral history, an important part of the history of Hellenism.

The first and main day of the conference on October 29 will deal with the main historical events. It will be attended by a number of renowned speakers, historical researchers, writers, historical scientists and university professors from universities in Greece and abroad. The conference will continue with a series of webinars and events to follow in 2024.

Alongside the conference, an exhibition will be hosted in the foyer of the museum which will include photographic material from Asia Minor and the Dodecanese, objects, finds and documents, books (indicative exhibition) written about the event, a small art exhibition inspired by historical events as well as a small tribute to the Associations of Dodecanese Asia Minor.

The conference, which is under the auspices of the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, is co-organized by the Federations of Dodecanese Societies of Athens Piraeus, Parish Societies of Rhodes and Refugee Societies of Greece and is supported by the Dodecanese House of Letters and Arts.

Also participating in the conference are the associations of Asia Minor of Leros, Asia Minor of Kos “Herodotus”, Asia Minor of Rhodes, the Society of Nisyrian Studies, the Research Center of Greek Song, the Hellenic Foundation for Historical Studies and the Neoclassical Folklore Museum of Kalymnos Michalis Kyrani. Other researchers and well-known speakers also participate.
