Conference in Al-Quds on the intersections of Moroccan and Palestinian experiences in the preservation of architectural heritage

During a conference organized by the Moroccan Cultural Center Association in partnership with Al-Quds University, experts from both countries discussed various topics related in particular to the role of social networks in the preservation of cultural heritage, particularly that of the holy city, as well as the challenges of restoring the old city of Al-Quds.

The conference, which is part of a visit by a Moroccan delegation composed of architects and experts specializing in the restoration of archaeological buildings and the maintenance of historical architecture, also focused on the importance of preserving architectural and urban heritage in socio-economic development, with Fez as an example.

On this occasion, the President of Al-Quds University, Imad Abu Kishek, praised the special interest shown by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, in the history of the holy city and the preservation of its heritage in the wake of the conditions surrounding it.

He also highlighted Morocco’s distinction through its scientific and studied interest in archaeological heritage and its restoration, calling on experts and academics from both countries to continue their exchange of experiences in this field, particularly for the benefit of students from the Faculty of Architecture at his university.

For his part, the Moroccan ambassador to Palestine, Abderrahim Meziane, noted that the visit of the Moroccan delegation reflects the interest shown by the Sovereign in Palestine and in particular in Al-Quds, through the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, expressing the wish to see this meeting between architects and experts from the two countries result in promising projects.

For his part, the coordinator of the Agency’s programs and projects in Al-Quds, Ismail Al-Ramli, explained that this visit, carried out with the support of the Agency, is part of the encouragement by this institution of concrete projects and programs that have a positive impact on the residents of Al-Quds, in the various social fields.

For her part, the head of the architecture department at Al-Quds University, Yara Seifi, said that the University has supervised many restoration projects carried out by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency in different sites in the holy city.

The Moroccan delegation includes the director of the Agency for the Rehabilitation of the City of Fez, Fouad Serghini, the national director of the Program for the Sustainable Development of Ksour and Kasbahs of Morocco, Bouazza Baraka, the director of the Center for the Restoration and Rehabilitation of Architectural Heritage in Atlas Zones, Mohamed Bousalah, the president of the Regional Council of the Order of Architects of Fez, Saadi Karim, as well as the expert in the field of heritage, Abdellah Alaoui, and the expert in arts and artistic heritage, Chokri Ben Tawit.
