A conference with the general title “Using the medicinal plants of Epirus for the creation of innovative products” is organized by the Region of Epirus, with the scientific assistance of the University of Ioannina, this Tuesday, at 9.10 am, at the Du Lac Hotel.
The conference includes presentations in three separate thematic sections. In the first, the results of the actions of the Region of Epirus in the context of the implementation of the strategic project “BEST – Addressing joint Agro- and Aqua – Biodiversity pressures Enhancing SuSTainable Rural Development” of the program Interreg VA Greece – Italy 2014-2020 will be presented.
In the second, important research works related to the utilization of medicinal plants in a wide range of applications will be presented. Researchers from a set of scientific fields (medicine, pharmaceuticals, biology, chemistry, agriculture) are participating from the country’s university institutions (EKPA, Agricultural University of Athens, Democritus University of Thrace, University of Ioannina), research institutes (Hellenic Marine Research Center, ELGO Veterinary Research Institute -Dimitra), the University Hospital of Ioannina and the Public IEK of Ioannina, while representatives of associations of dynamic productive branches of the region will also speak on the subject.
Finally, in the third section, researchers and representatives of companies will present exemplary cases of the utilization of medicinal plants for the development of innovative nutritional, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products based on the research carried out.
A total of 23 presentations from various fields of research, production and business activity are included, which enable those interested to gain a global picture of the results of the important research work, carried out in relation to medicinal plants, and the main stages, which include the development of a product, based on their properties.
