The first fears have been confirmed: Sofia Goggia suffered a broken tibia and fibula during training on Monday.
The Italian Ski Association announced that the 31-year-old Italian was immediately operated on after her diagnosis in the hospital in Milan.
The training accident on the Casola nera slope in Ponte di Legno occurred on Monday morning (all information >>>). Goggia caught his right leg on the goal while swinging to the right and was then flown to Milan by helicopter.
Next bitter failure
Sofia Goggia would be the next prominent name to end the ski season early due to injury. Among the women, Petra Vlhova, Corinne Suter, Valerie Grenier and Nina Ortlieb have previously been hit. In the men’s division, Marco Schwarz, Aleksander Kilde and Alexis Pinturault had to end the season early.
Particularly bitter from Goggia’s point of view: The 31-year-old would have had the best chances in the race for the downhill ball again this year. She is currently 89 points ahead of second-placed Stephanie Venier in the discipline rankings.
