Kumar Shanu became nostalgic after talking about AR Rahman on the stage of ‘Indian Idol-14’. Smriti said, “You don’t know one thing, I’m telling you that.” When the song ‘Roja’ was made, Rahman Sahib called me and Alka to sing all the songs for this movie. But then we were delusional. We told him, we are so busy that you have to come to Bombay and record the songs.”
Regretfully, Kumar Shanu said, ‘This decision was a big mistake. I missed it a lot. Later it was sung by someone else. Then the song was released. But I was wrong that time. It is regrettable. Since then Mr. Rahman never called us again.’
Apart from Hindi, Kumar Shanu has sung in many languages including Bengali, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Urdu, English. He holds the record of winning Filmfare Best Singer Award five times in a row. In 2009, he was awarded the Padma Shri (the fourth highest civilian award) by the Government of India.
