/ Agency surveyed the opinions of stars, specialists and analysts of Iraqi football to know their expectations for the result of the match between the Iraqi and Jordanian national teams in the round of 16 qualifying for the round of 8.
Opinions were mixed, most of them in favour of the Iraqi team, with apprehension and fear of the Jordanian team due to the similarity in level.
Football expert and discoverer of football generations, Dawood Al-Azzawi, told Agency, “Today’s match will be at a high level, full of excitement and rivalry, and we expect the competition to be fierce between the Iraqi and Jordanian teams.”
He added, “I do not believe in predictions because the level of any team depends on two factors: the first is that the player is in his day, ready and comfortable, and the second is exploiting opportunities to score goals. The team that does not exploit opportunities is the one that will lose, no matter how good its level is. In conclusion, I say that predictions are very difficult in today’s match, but we hope that our Iraqi team wins.”
While the football coach and analyst Saad Hafez told our agency, “I wish we would meet a team from East Asia, especially after we succeeded in facing them in three matches and achieved positive results in our encounters with them.”
He added, “There is a great similarity between the performance of our national team and its Jordanian counterpart, but the balance is in favor of our team in terms of teamwork, as the Iraqi team enjoys quick transition and a way of changing the game.”
He said, “Our team is capable of making a difference and achieving victory in light of these two criteria, and I believe the match will end with Iraq winning by two goals to none against Jordan.”
Iraqi football star and one of the heroes of the 2007 achievement, Bassem Abbas, told Agency, “Our match against Jordan will be very difficult due to the similarity in level and performance.”
He added, “I wish our team would face teams from East Asia, as we could defeat them, but the Jordanian team is close to us, we know it well and it knows us.”
He continued, “Our matches with Jordan are always competitive, exciting and thrilling, but I believe that the Iraqi team will win today’s match, but it will be achieved with difficulty.”
Former national team player and current coach Haider Obaid told the agency, “It is certain that the advantage in today’s match will be for Iraq, which must decide the result in its favor by presenting all its capabilities and effort to please a large Iraqi audience awaiting victory.”
He added, “My expectations are not certain, as there may be changes that occur during the match, as they occur from one match to another, but we have great confidence in our national team players, and I expect that they will overcome all difficulties and changes and achieve a winning result for their country, Iraq.”
This afternoon at 2:30 pm, the Iraqi and Jordanian national teams will meet in a match that does not accept division by two in the round of 16 of the Asian Football Championship. The winner will qualify for the quarter-finals, so his chances will be closer.
