Confused? The CEO and founder of Nothing who founded OnePlus reviews the OnePlus 11

by time news

You seem to be the name Carl Pei Don’t show too much. Today he is the CEO (and one of the founders) of a company Nothing When before that he was the CEO and one of the founders of a company OnePlus. A few years ago, Pei decided he had had enough of OnePlus and left the company. The cooldown period website has learned that he has decided to establish a new company, called Nothing, which will manufacture and market smartphones and related accessories.

With the launch of the first smartphone Nothing (1) it became a serious competitor of OnePlus. Throughout the period, Pei did not pay too much attention to the company he left and was busy with the affairs of his new company. Now a video is published on Nothing’s YouTube channel in which he takes the OnePlus 11 and passes his opinion on it:

It starts with his sting when he updates that the video is published two days after the end of the embargo that the company instructed all reviewers who received a device for review. He says that they will publish two days later so that OnePlus doesn’t know they have the device before then. A slight jab at OnePlus.

He then goes to the device and starts designing it. In the wedding line, he likes the design, the size of the device and its weight. It bothers him a little that the company has no design uniformity and if we delete the company’s logo and the logo of Hasselblad, it will be difficult to identify for sure that it is a OnePlus device. It also bothered him that the volume buttons are small and that the power button and the sound mode selector are not aligned to the same line.

After the design he moved on to talk about the price when he thought they would sell it for 800 dollars while in reality they sell it for 700 dollars. The video was filmed before its announcement, so it was based on leaked price estimates. According to him, the production cost of the device is around 460 dollars, and to that will be added the costs of various agreements, such as with Hasselblad, which increase the cost of the device by another 20 dollars. He says in the video:I don’t know exactly what they did here but I know all the agreements with the suppliers“, therefore he knows production costs.

After the design, he moves on to talk about the photography setup and quite compliments him. According to him, OnePlus’ cameras are better calibrated than Nothing’s cameras (1) and that they (Nothing) still have to improve in the next model. He points out the fact that the device has three cameras that are designed to give good results and that they didn’t just push more unnecessary cameras (like 2 megapixel cameras for macro and depth). According to him, a photo taken with 2x optical zoom on the OnePlus 11 and a photo taken with Nothing at 2x digital zoom look the same and it’s hard to tell who took which photo. Bottom line, he unashamedly says that Nothing has more to learn in the field of photography from OnePlus.

Another compliment he gave the device is for its vibration mechanism. According to him, the Haptic, the device’s vibration engine, does an excellent job and gives a good and real feeling when using the device.

From the operating system it can be said gently that he does not like it. The device he had probably came with OPPO’s ColorOS operating system and not OnePlus’s OxygenOS as it is sold in the global market (including in Israel). The bottom line is that he doesn’t like it and clearly prefers the operating system in Nothing.

In conclusion, it can be said that he did not kill the device, but at the same time recommended purchasing the iPhone 14 or Pixel 7. According to him, the device is “Solid premium piece of hardware” but still recommended purchasing Nothing (1).
