Pope Francis has sent his best wishes to Sabino Maffeo, the Congregation of Jesus, who will celebrate his hundredth birthday this Tuesday, November 01.

Arulpani Sabino, who joins the Church of Jesus to love and serve all, completes 85 years this Tuesday, Pope Francis said that during his long life, he had some special connections with the Church, and served as the head of the State of the Church of Rome (1968-1973).

The Pope also commended Arulpani Sabino for 12 years as Head of the Technical Department at Vatican Radio (1973–1985) and then as Head of History and Archives (1985–2017) at the Vatican Astronomical Research Center in Castel Gandolfo.

The Pope said that Sabino was an honorable instrument in the hands of God, who worked with great joy, love for others and a sense of service.

Pope Francis has asked Arulpani Sabino to pray for him as well, ending his greeting by saying that he will grant his apostolic blessing through the Holy Mother Mary.

Arulpani Sabino was born in 1922 in Somma Vesuviana near Naples, Italy. He joined the Church of Jesus in 1937 at the age of 15. Urom Gregorian studied philosophy and theology at the University of Papyrus and was ordained to the priesthood in 1953. In 1957, he received a master’s degree in physics from the Universities of Rome and Florence.
