On the afternoon of July 23, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association and the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) coordinated to organize a congress to establish the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association.
Attending the Congress were Mr. Chanthaphone Khammanichanh, Counselor, Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Vietnam; Mr. Khampheuy Philapha, General Director of Lao News Agency (KPL); Mr. Tran Van Tuy, Chairman of Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association; Ms. Vu Viet Trang, Member of the Executive Committee of the Party Committee of the Central Agencies Division, Secretary of the Party Committee, General Director, Chairman of the VNA Journalists Association.
Opening remarks, Deputy General Director of Vietnam News Agency Nguyen Tuan Hung – The head of the Interim Executive Committee said: In 2023, the two countries Vietnam and Laos have many activities to celebrate the establishment of diplomatic relations and the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

The two countries’ senior leaders had many activities to show the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

In the flow of events of special friendship and solidarity between the two countries, the Contact Committee of former VNA experts to help the Lao News Agency (KPL) before 1975 aspired to establish Vietnam – Laos Friendship Association VNAa channel for people-to-people diplomacy, has now become a reality.
The Interim Executive Committee has introduced personnel to join the Chapter’s Executive Committee consisting of 11 members.
The Congress also agreed to elect Mr. Nguyen Tuan Hung – Deputy General Director of VNA – as the branch president.

Speaking at the Congress, Counselor and Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Vietnam Chanthaphone Khammanichanh congratulated the success of the Congress, and emphasized that Laos and Vietnam are two neighbors with a long-standing close relationship, which was developed from the traditional relationship built by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane through periods of hardship and sacrifice, cultivated by the two peoples during the war.
During the renovation period, the two countries continued to help and cooperate for mutual development. Especially in the field of communication, the VNA has sent experts and journalists to stand shoulder to shoulder with Lao officials in providing accurate and timely news.
The establishment of the Association today is an important event, a milestone showing the special interest of Vietnamese comrades, especially the VNA in continuing to maintain and promote the good relationship between the two countries, which is increasingly close and durable.

General manager Lao News Agency (KPL) Khampheuy Philapha affirmed that during the past 60 years, the VNA has wholeheartedly supported and helped the Lao News Agency with its wisdom, strength and expertise.
Especially, before the Lao News Agency was officially established, developed and grown as today, it was thanks to the wholehearted help in information work of the predecessors of the VNA.
Chairman of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association Tran Van Tuy proposed the Friendship Association at all levels Vietnam-Laos it is necessary to focus on further promoting education and propaganda among the masses, especially the young generations of the two countries, about the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos; enhance the role of a bridge for cooperation in education and human resource training to help Laos, economic, cultural, scientific and technical cooperation activities, tourism and sports between the two countries; organize and participate in activities to support and help Lao students studying in Vietnam…

Speaking at the congress, General Director of Vietnam News Agency Vu Viet Trang said that over the past time, the provisional Executive Committee of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association of Vietnam has carried out meaningful activities, such as visiting red places marking the history of the Vietnam-Laos relationship, participating in activities launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association, visiting members…
The activities of the Association have contributed to deepening the traditional friendship relationship and the close, loyal and loyal feelings between the VNA and the KPL.
Inheriting the valuable assets that generations of officials and employees of the two companies have worked hard to cultivate, in the coming time, the two sides will continue to exchange and use each other’s information to spread official information about the situation of the two countries as well as about the special relationship between the Party, State and people of the two countries; maintaining support channels both in terms of human and material resources in terms of technology, language training, and professional development.
The two news agencies support each other’s reporters in the process of reporting on important national events as well as regional and international events held in each other’s countries.
During the official meeting between VNA General Director and Lao News Agency Director General Khampheuy Philapha on July 25, the two sides will discuss cooperation directions to deepen the comprehensive cooperation relationship between the two national news agencies of Vietnam and Laos in the new period.
