From next year, farmers and agricultural companies will be able to recover any hiring of temporary workers and will no longer be obliged to make these permanent workers intermittent, an issue that had raised complaints about excessive bureaucracy. The change will be implemented in the Workers’ Statute, presumably in the first quarter of next yearonce approved by the Spanish courts. For now, on Wednesday last week, the Congressional Agriculture Committee has already approved this issue through an amendment to the law against food waste presented by the PP and agreed with Junts. The law will be debated in Congress, then pass to the Senate and processing could end in January or February.

Junts’ representative at the Congress for the delimitation of Lleida, Isidre Gavín, underlined that the obligation to hire temporary workers with a discontinuous permanent work system “is an aberration, it did not work and it was a failure”. According to the deputy many farmers have difficulty finding workers when they are abroad and, in these cases, he recalled that they cannot take on others until after a while, because they are obliged to give priority to the fixed discontinuous ones.

30,000 hires

For this reason, Gavín explained in statements to the media in Lleida, they took the opportunity to “abolish” this measure implemented in 2022 and which can recover temporary workwhich he considers “more agile, efficient and practical for farmers”. According to the Junts deputy, the transposition of the amendment to the law will pave the way for the approval of this measure between the months of January and February. This can benefit the next fruit campaign in Lleida, which generates around 30,000 hires, according to the Farmers’ Union.

On the other hand, Gavín insisted that everything possible will be done to obtain its approval extension of aid to cogeneration of sewage treatment plantsIt’s that this year they reach their useful life and may be forced to close. “We will not leave the farmers of Alcarràs or the Masies de Voltregà alone. We will have the government find a solution and we will extend the fee for two years”, explained the Junts deputy.
