Lucknow: For the first time in 135 years, the Congress party has no representation in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is in place.
Here, on 5th January 1887, the Legislative Council was constituted. The first meeting was held on January 8 of that year. The Congress members were present in the Legislative Council. Currently, the tenure of Deepak Singh, the only Congress member in the Legislative Council, ended today (July 06).
Hence, for the first time in the last 135 years, there is no Congress member in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
In the last assembly elections in 2017, Congress won seven seats. It won only two seats in the elections held last March. The party got only 2.33 percent votes.
