“We talked at the group meeting. This type of speech is absolutely unacceptable to me personally, and to my colleagues as well. If we see challenges and if it hurts because of demographic problems, it is perhaps understandable, but it is not decent to moralize or insult people who, for one reason or another, do not have children – it is not decent”, commented R. Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė to Elta.
“No one has the right to somehow order or not to order to do something. On the other hand, there is an appeal to women. I think it is not fair in the sense that men are also responsible for family matters. Such statements are offensive to women,” she regretted.
When asked whether the party’s Supervisory Committee intends to consider the behavior of V. Rakutis, R. Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė said that she had not heard of such considerations so far.
“If someone applies to the committee, they will probably consider it. So far I have not heard such considerations. I think we talked openly enough in the group as well. I mean, on the one hand, I can understand the concern about demographics. But certainly such statements do not contribute to the improvement of that situation – in any case, I think, they provoke indignation and confrontation”, concluded the elder of the conservative faction.
ELTA reminds that in the TV3.lt news program “33min. with Artūrs Anužiu”, conservative V. Rakutis criticized young women, saying that they “work” without wanting to have children.
“It is necessary to give birth, it is enough to work here. Thirty-year-old women walk around: “I don’t want children.” Well, this is a disaster, the biggest problem here is that no children are born in Lithuania. It is a primary problem and it is necessary to speak loudly about it”, said V. Rakutis.
However, after such statements, the politician received retorts for, according to critics, his outdated and patriarchal approach.
