After strong opposition, Collector Karthikeyan has ordered the restoration of the sewage canal at a lower height. The Highways Department confirmed that 20 lakhs were spent on the construction, and the contractor is at fault.

That means the wall of the canal prevents the doors from opening outwards. Due to this, the people living in that area faced difficulties.
People are frustrated
According to the people living there, “The sewage canal is built so high that it hides the doors of houses and shops. This affects children and the elderly. Cars and two-wheelers cannot be brought into the house. The work was done at night. He asked the contractor to lower the height but he did not listen. The authorities should fix this,” he said.
Order for restoration

In this case, Collector Karthikeyan has ordered to restore the sewage canal which has been constructed at a high height to disturb the public in Tirunelveli city.
20 lakh construction of Rs
An officer also confirmed this order of the Collector. An official of the Highways Department said, “The district collector has ordered to reduce the height and reconstruct the sewage canals. The construction work was carried out under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme. The contractor is at fault. 20 lakhs was spent on the construction. The contractor should accept it,” he said.
