According to him, the parental leave could be shortened by half a year or up to one year.
This could only be done if children from the age of one were provided with kindergartens or babysitting services. This would allow parents of children to return to the labor market as soon as possible.
“It is important for us to look to the future, so that we have enough people in the labor market, so that we can provide the same pension system and the part of solidarity that current workers pay for current retirees,” the minister explained.
He admitted that the shortening of childcare leave could be implemented during this Saeima convocation.
The fetus did not rule out the possibility of leaving the choice to spend a longer period of time on parental leave. However, the main emphasis is on the future, in order to be able to ensure the availability of labor.
“We need to be in the labor market sooner and end the labor market later,” said the minister.
LETA has already reported that the next year’s state budget does not include additional funding for benefits for families with children.
