Greece’s last monarch, Constantine II, who reigned for 9 years, died today due to ill health. He is 82 years old.
Constantine died while being treated at a private hospital in Athens, the hospital said.
Historical records suggest that the 9 years of Constantine II’s reign were the most turbulent and unsettled in Greek history.

Constantine II was born on June 2, 1940 as the only son of King Paul and Queen Frederica of Greece. In 1964, after the death of his father, Constantine II assumed the position of King of Greece. But due to the unrest and turmoil in Greece during the reign of Constantine II, a military coup occurred in Greece on April 21, 1967.
Subsequently, Constantine II left the country after the army captured Greece. Constantine II lived in Rome, Italy until 1973, when the military regime ended in Greece and democracy was implemented.
