The appointment of new advisers to the Constitutional Court is contested by the opposition party Les Démocrates. Those in charge of the political formation point out a procedural defect in the process which led to the appointment of the four representatives of the office of the Assembly within the next Constitutional Court.
Who designated four of the seven advisers to sit in the Constitutional Court on behalf of the office of the National Assembly? The Democrats party is seeking answers from the speaker of parliament after the names of the seven court elders are published. In a press conference on May 26 in Cotonou, Guy Dossou Mitokpè, on behalf of the Democrats, declared:
“While informing national and international public opinion that his representative, in the office of the National Assemblywas not associated with the designation procedure, [le parti Les Démocrates, ndlr] asks the office of the National Assembly to resume, in the forms and standards required by our positive law, the designation of the personalities to sit within the next mandate of the Constitutional Court, taking into account the right of the parliamentary minority. They are now obliged to take account.”
On Monday, May 22, the composition of the 2023-2028 mandate of the Constitutional Court was unveiled by the press. The list includes indistinctly, the seven sages without specifying their origin, between the appointment by President Talon and the appointment by the office of the National Assembly: Nicolas Assogba, Michel Adjaka, Aleyya Gouda Bako, Dorothée Cossou Sossa, Dandi Gnamou, Vincent Acakpo and Mathieu Adjovi.
