As part of the Photometria Awards 2024, the Photometria International Photography Festival is making an open call for photographers from around the world to submit their perspectives on ‘Constructed Realities’.
“Photography has always had the power to capture and shape narratives, but in today’s digital age, the lines between reality and fabrication are blurring more than ever. From carefully curated social media feeds to AI-generated images, our understanding of what is real is constantly being challenged. Consider how staged photography can manipulate perceptions by presenting a carefully constructed version of reality. Step into dream worlds where reality bends and twists, offering glimpses into alternate dimensions of existence. Consider the influence of media propaganda, where images are used to sway opinions and distort truths,” reads the call to artists, who are encouraged to challenge the perceptions and constructions that shape our understanding of reality.
The contest, held annually since 2009, is free. Photographers’ proposals can be submitted until May 31. The first winner is awarded with the amount of 500 euros, while one of the top three winners gets the opportunity to participate in the next event with an individual exhibition. The exhibition of the 25 best photos of the Photometria Awards 2024 competition will take place in Ioannina as part of the 16th edition of the Photometria International Photography Festival and will continue its journey after the end of the festival in other cities of Greece.
